Die Schweizerinnen bleiben ihrem tradierten Mix aus Singer/Songwriter und Indie-Rock treu.
Im „Paradies“, da ist es schön. Zwar wachsen Orangenbäume, aber was fließt, ist eher der Rotwein als irgendwelche Fruchtsäfte. Die Vorab Single deutete es schon an: Nora Steiner und Madlaina Pollina fügen auf Album Nummer drei ihrer bisherigen Erzählung ein neues, aber nahtlos anschließendes Kapitel zu.

Der Sound von RISIKO ist kernig und im weitesten Sinne analog. Rau klingen die Songs, aber immer melodiös, gemacht eher für die mittleren als die ganz großen Bühnen. Man möchte die Schweißtropfen der Band schon auf der eigenen Haut spüren, das Funkeln in den Augen sehen. Inhaltlich treffen Geschichten über die Liebe auf solche über die Gesellschaft. Mal sind die beiden Bandleaderinnen selbst die Protagonistinnen, mal beobachten sie.

Mal steckt Ironie in den Zeilen, mal Zärtlichkeit. Letztere macht die stärksten Songs auf diesem Album aus: In „Engel am Hauptbahnhof“ – was für herrliche Ausflüge in den Twang sich die Gitarre hier erlaubt – wird vom Bahnhof als Prinzip erzählt, von der Eile und der Ruhe, von der Ein- und der Zweisamkeit. Im folgenden „Unter uns“ braucht es nur ein E-Piano und eine verhallte Gitarre, um die Ballade der Liebe zur singen. Und das abschließende „Ich blibe und du gahsch“ winkt der Zuneigung nicht nur auf Schwyzerdütsch, sondern auch mit wunderbarer Wehmut hinterher.

It's beautiful in "Paradise". Orange trees may grow, but what flows is red wine rather than any fruit juices. The advance single already hinted at this: Nora Steiner and Madlaina Pollina add a new but seamless chapter to their previous narrative on album number three.

The sound of RISIKO is gritty and analog in the broadest sense. The songs sound rough, but always melodious, made more for the middle-sized stages than the really big ones. You want to feel the drops of sweat on your skin and see the sparkle in their eyes. In terms of content, stories about love meet those about society. Sometimes the two band leaders themselves are the protagonists, sometimes they observe.
Sometimes there is irony in the lines, sometimes tenderness. The latter makes up the strongest songs on this album: In "Engel am Hauptbahnhof" - what wonderful excursions into twang the guitar allows itself here - it tells of the train station as a principle, of haste and tranquillity, of oneness and togetherness. In the following "Unter uns", it only takes an electric piano and an echoing guitar to sing the ballad of love. And the concluding "Ich blibe und du gahsch" waves goodbye to affection not only in Schwyzerdütsch, but also with wonderful melancholy.

Wenn Nora Steiner und Madlaina Pollina zusammen musizieren, ist es ein Leichtes, in Melancholie zu verfallen. Es scheint, als würde all der Zauber, all die Energie, die sich mit den Jahren abgeschliffen haben, von der Musik der zwei Zürcherinnen aufgefangen und uns zurückgebracht werden. Steiner & Madlaina erinnern uns an die Gedanken, die uns einst antrieben, dann ausbremsten und schliesslich verdrängt wurden. Ganz sanft, liebevoll und rebellisch begegnen sie uns – und bleiben.

When Nora Steiner and Madlaina Pollina make music together, it is easy to fall into melancholy. It seems as if all the magic, all the energy that has worn off over the years, is captured by the music of the two Zurich women and brought back to us. Steiner & Madlaina remind us of the thoughts that once drove us, then slowed us down and were finally suppressed. They meet us gently, lovingly and rebelliously - and remain.
